Hey you guys! I’m Ali.

And I’m really glad you’re here. On this site you’ll find conversations around pursuing a healthy life + a healthy career. I’m a work in progress, but I think it’s fun to bring people along for the ride.

I’m a big believer that vulnerability and good communication make virtually every relationship stronger and each of my posts include a challenge to my readers to implement into their daily lives.

Career + Life

I’ll start with “now” and work my way backwards. Right now, I work for Stryker, a major medical device manufacturer. I sell equipment used in orthopedic surgery and patient safety devices in the OR. I’ve been with Stryker for about a year and am challenged daily in my communication skills and strategic thinking. Outside of work, I coach college students and young professionals on career-building and interview skills. I’m involved in the conversation in LA around the intersection of God + work and seek to explore bringing qualities of Jesus (humility, identity, grace, selflessness, generosity) into the workplace.

Prior to working for Stryker in Los Angeles, I sold pharmaceuticals for Eli Lilly and was based in Indianapolis. I loved Indianapolis. I have amazing friends there who are changing the world. I traveled a ton with my job, which ultimately led to a long-term business trip in Marina Del Rey, where I fell in love with the West Coast and knew I needed to move here… hence the perfect opportunity for a career change.

Prior to stepping into corporate, I was a founding member + Director of a nonprofit devoted to prevention, intervention, and restoration of sex trafficking victims in Greenville, SC. It’s called Switch and you can read more about it here.

When I learned about sex trafficking in 2010, I had never felt more broken about anything. I knew that I needed to get involved in fighting slavery. By the way, did you know there are more slaves now than ever in history? Even more than during the African Slave Trade. I’m surprised everyone who hears that fact doesn’t look for the fastest way to get involved in abolishing the civil injustice.

What I didn’t know then is that I would get to know women in the sex industry (i.e. dancers, prostitutes, trafficking victims), and fall in love with their hearts. I didn’t know that I would be able to get to know a dancer and see the same insecurities that I face, or hear about stories from her past that are so awful that I can’t even imagine healing, much less imagine her finding healing.

I worked with NightLight in Atlanta for a summer and then moved back to South Carolina where I led a team of twenty people to build relationships with broken people to offer hope and resources. I also worked with clients to build resumes, interview skills, and in turn, confidence.

I grew up in Charleston, SC and have a B.S in marketing from Clemson University.

My life in Los Angeles is more than I ever dreamed it would be. I am a part of a really beautiful and healthy community, get to work for an incredible company, and have unlimited opportunity to explore creative outlets.

You can usually find me sipping a glass of Pinot Noir at sunset, planning a trip to somewhere I’ve never been, or playing beach volleyball in Santa Monica.
